Hip Surgery

I'm a massage therapist! So, i love anatomy. The human body is the most magical thing! I am amazed on a daily basis of what we put our bodies through. We put so much stress on our bodies physically and mentally! Its unbelievable.

For about the last year my mom has said her hips have been bugging her. Since Christmas she has gone DOWN hill, limping where ever she went. She's needed help walking up or down stairs and in the last few weeks she's needed help just walking. I cannot believe how just in the last week she has been utterly miserable. So yesterday she went in at 5:30am for a hip replacement surgery. So the sick and twisted human that am begged if i could watch.. The Doc. said "NO" shocker. So then i asked for them to film it so i could watch.. guess what he said.. "No!" So for my final plea i begged them to just take pictures for me.. again "NO" was the reply.. so I've been cruising online and looking at pictures.. so i have to share. I'll try and not put anything too graphic!!

This is a picture of a healthy hip joint. The cartilage this there to provide a cushioning for the joints. The cartilage can get worn down but also can ossify and turn into bone.

This is an X-RAY (not my mom..i wish though) of a hip joint that the cartilage has worn out. So the ball of the femur is right on the socket of the pelvis. Bone on bone.. OUCH!!

This isn't the exact thing (no i don't know what it's called) that they put into her leg.. but it's very similar. They take the HIP IMPLANT and literally hammer it into the femur. (OUCH) When they were putting it in my mom her femur it splintered. So it split. (OMGOSH) Then they put the last three parts into the socket and hook them together.

HOW AMAZING IS TECHNOLOGY??? LOVE IT!!

This is what the joint now looks like.. ARE YOU KIDDING?? If you aren't loving all this information... I'm sorry cuz it's freaking awesome!! So now my mom has be in the hospital for 3 days. For the next 5 weeks she can only put half her weight on it. She has to use a walker or crutches. Guess who's gonna be the "go-fer"

Well in case any of you wondered what happens in a hip replacement.. now ya know!! I had a hard time finding actual pictures of surgery!! Sorry I know you were looking forward to it!

So I'm going to hop on my soap box for a minute and tell you, It's been very hard to see my mother in so much pain. It's been hard to see her not being able to be active. She loves to be in her garden and spend time with the grand kids and she hasn't had the energy to do it.. she has been in too much pain. So take care of yourselves..(Preaching to the choir here) Eat more healthy, don't put you're body under stresses that it can't handle. get more massages(not kidding.. you'd be amazed at the difference you feel) and most importantly, get active. Don't sit in front of the TV all the time. Go ride bikes, go hiking, hell just walk around the block, it will make a HUGE difference. I'm not saying it will completely prevent the possibilities but it will make a difference in the final outcome!!

Cinema-Scope

I'm not so good at this blogging thing! I don't take the time i should to post the intimate yet mundane events of my life. Right now it's 12:30 am I've taken Tylenol PM and i can't sleep.. so i figured now is as good of time as ever to update my blog!

So this last weekend i was able to catch not only 1 but 2 movies. I was so excited and so very proud. I am a huge movie buff! I love the movies. Back in the good ol' days when i had the time and the funds, i went to the movies a few times a week. On Friday mornings I'd start my day off by calling all 4 movie theaters to find out when every movie started. My friends would call me instead of the theater to find out what movies were were playing, when they started, what the new releases were for that week, or what a specific movie was about. I miss those days. So I'm going to share my opinion about the movies i saw. Reviewing movies is one of my favorite things to do!

The Bucket List
Comedy/Drama
97 Mins
January 11th, 2008
Rating: PG-13 for language, including a sexual reference.
Starring: Jack Nicholson, Morgan Freeman, Sean Hayes
Director: Rob Reiner

I'm not a big Jack Nicholson fan. He always plays a creepy man who psycho and rude and obnoxious. I wonder if he plays those characters because that's the way he is in real life.. Huh i don't know! Anyways. The Bucket List. For me, it was a little slow in getting started. It took me a while to get into but once i was captured, i fell in love with these two old men (not literally) and the friendship that they built in such a short amount of time. It was a lot funnier than i expected it to be too. I love a movie that you can be laughing your guts out and 2 seconds later bawling you're eyes out. This is one of those movies. It makes you take a step back and realize whats important and whats not.. In the end, it's you're closest friends and you're family that make life worth while!! I give it 4 outta 5 waffles. Yes, it was that good of a movie!

Jumper
Action/ Adventure
90 Mins
February 14, 2009
Rating: PG-13 for sequence of intense action violence, some language and brief sexuality
Starring: Hayden Christensen, Samuel L. Jackson
Director:Doug Liman

I wasn't sure what to expect going into this movie. I had heard both good and bad things about it! It is a fun and intense movie. It's from the same director as the Bourne Identity and Mr. and Mrs. Smith, both movies i was a big fan of. I knew there was going to be some really fun action scenes. Not as many as i hoped but they were still fun! I kept thinking man.. "i wish i was a jumper.. Life would be so easy. I wouldn't have to fly to Nate and Karissa in Cali.. i could just jump there." Defiantly not the depth of emotion to be felt as in The Bucket List, it's a man movie,, a thriller! The over all story line was pretty good. I think a little bit better character development would have been good and helpful. Maybe a little more info on jumpers as a whole would have been good too. They left it open for a 2nd one so i hope it's at least as good as this one!! I give it
3 waffles outta 5! Not too shabby!

Hopefully more movie reviews to come!

Easter Weekend!

Aspen (my niece) asked me what i wanted the Easter Bunny to bring me. I thought long and hard and I answered back to her, "I want Karissa and Nate to come to my house for Easter." She put her hands on her hips and gave me a very frustrated look and said , "Amber, the Easter Bunny can't bring you that for Easter!!" And then she walked away! Fortunately I got what i wanted. Nate and Karissa came this weekend and Jessie K. being here was a total bonus!

My parents have started the tradition of going to California to see my sister and her family for Easter. Leaving me alone for 2 weeks. Not that i mind. Also my brother and his wife went to Tennessee for a basketball tournament and left their 4 kids at home. So We had all the kids over and colored Easter eggs!!!

7 kids-19 different colors-and 80 eggs!

We had puff paint! Not as fun as it sounds.. I had to concentrate too hard!

Isn't that tender?? (Throwing up)

Later after all the kids left we got involved in a intense game of Guitar Hero III and ate mozzarella sticks!! Good fun!!!

My sister made dinner for all of us! It was super good!!! Chey was nice enough to peel potatoes and didn't want to get her new Easter outfit dirty!! Doesn't she look so grown up??

Karissa Helped clean of the table
It was so magical

After dinner it was a serious battle of Hula Hooping
I was not good!
Nate wasn't much better!

Chey beat us all!!

Then Aspen wanted to take me on a ride.. She was my horse pulling a wagon!!

We decided i needed two horses!!

It was a great weekend!! We lots of fun!! The food was good and the company made it the best!!!
Thanks for coming and spending the weekend friends!!!

I am so blessed

This is the 3rd time I’ve started this blog over. I’m just gonna get straight to the point instead of trying to be all thought-provoking and profound. This last month has been a rough one. Nothing I can’t handle, just busy and stressful. I often think of the people in my life and how grateful I am for them. I occasionally wonder how life would be without them or what path I would have taken had one of them not been there to give me advice and guidance. Recently I have not only become more grateful for those in my life but completely and utterly humbled by the love they have for me. I cannot believe that I have been so blessed to have people who are ready and willing to help, whether it be helping me count right, listening to what I truly have to say, or just letting me know I’m loved and cared for. I don’t want to know where I’d be without these people. It’s frightening. So to those who have my best interest at heart, who support me, and most importantly who know the real me and still love me, I hope you know that I am grateful and I love you all very much and I would not be who I am without you!

Obviously this isn’t everyone who I’m grateful for but these are a few! (No Karissa they’re
not in any particular order so stop thinking that!!)

Somebody Loves Me

So Yesterday at work, I was doing my thing, running around for the doctor and doing whatever needed to get done. A girl walked into the office carrying a a beautiful vase of tulips. Tulips are my favorite and of course i was instantly jealous of who ever they were for. I thought for sure they were for Laura from her husband or Albany from her boyfriend. The flower lady put them on the desk and said "These are for Amber." My mouth dropped open in shock. I ripped the card open to find out who loved me! All it said was Have a good day!!! No name!! Are you kidding me?? How sweet!! Someone loves me. I went nuts all day trying to figure out who they were from. Needless to say my wonderful doctor (Adam) wouldn't let me live it down, and everyone else that came into the office made comments about my "secret lover." I have my speculations on who might of sent them but nobody is talking! So without much evidence as to who's culprit.. i have ended my search and have deiced to just enjoy my tulip!! I love them!

Aren't they just gorgeous??

And look we match!!! What are the odds???
